Suddenly confined to a wheelchair, he could no longer fully access this space he loved.

The Design Process
When Tony came to La Madrina, he wasn't looking for a new landscape.
He was looking for a way back to independence.
La Madrina approached the project by focusing on movement, reach, and real-life use. By creating the layout as three interconnected ovals, we created a Trinity knot—a design that carried both practical accessibility and deep personal meaning.
The finished space features smooth, wheelchair-friendly paver pathways, raised limestone planting beds within comfortable reach, generous turning areas, and a custom-built accessible potting bench designed specifically for Tony.
The result is more than a landscape. It's a garden Tony can once again explore, create in, and care for independently.
This project demonstrates how thoughtful design can restore more than access. It can restore confidence, dignity, purpose, and connection.
Sometimes the most powerful transformation begins with a path that finally meets someone where they are.
